I love a home office that feels like an actual room in the house rather than somewhere you reluctantly go to answer emails.
Deep navy built-ins give this one plenty of drama, while white slipcovers, warm wood, brass, and a wall of windows keep everything from feeling too dark. And one of my favorite parts of the room is that the desk isn't actually a desk.
It's a dining table.
Sometimes the best desk isn't a desk at all.
If you mostly work from a laptop, you may not actually need a traditional desk with drawers, filing cabinets, and compartments for office supplies you haven't used since 2009.
What you probably do appreciate is a really generous work surface.
That's why I love using a dining table in a home office. You have plenty of room to spread out a laptop, notebook, coffee, paperwork, and whatever else inevitably accumulates during the day, but visually it feels much more like furniture than office equipment.
It also gives the room some flexibility. Someday it could become a homework table, craft table, library table, or—very conveniently—a dining table again.
One thing I would check before ordering is the height. Most dining tables are around 29–30 inches high, which works well with many chairs, but measure both pieces before committing. A beautiful office chair isn't nearly as useful when your knees don't fit underneath the table.

Obviously, if you're sitting at a desk for eight hours every day, comfort and proper support win. But for a home office used more casually, a dining chair can be a really pretty option.
Dark walls work especially well when you give them plenty of lighter things to play against.
Navy covers a lot of this room, but it never feels heavy.
The windows are a huge part of that. All that natural light breaks up the darker cabinetry, while the ivory drapery creates a soft transition between the navy walls and bright windows.
Then you have warm wood in the center of the room, white upholstery, a light rug, and little touches of brass.
I think that's the trick when you're tempted by a really deep paint color. You don't necessarily have to balance it with more color. Sometimes you just need enough lightness and warmth around it.
I also love that the built-ins and walls are the same navy. Instead of visually chopping up the room, everything becomes one beautiful backdrop.
And when your storage looks that good, suddenly having an entire wall devoted to office supplies seems much more appealing.
An office is much nicer when there's somewhere to sit that isn't your desk.

They give you somewhere to read, plan, have a conversation, or sit with a cup of coffee when you need to think for five minutes without staring directly at your computer.

That's really what I like about this office. The navy makes it feel special, but everything else is practical and comfortable.
It's a room designed for getting things done, without looking like a room devoted entirely to getting things done.
