A dresser is one of those pieces I’d rather choose once and keep for a long time

. Beds, bedding, lamps, and even the color palette of a bedroom can change pretty easily, but a good dresser can work through all of it. I pulled together ten dressers I love that have that classic, collected feel I’m always drawn to, with a mix of warm wood, creamy finishes, and a few darker options for contrast.

Start With a Finish You Can Live With

For a piece this substantial, I tend to gravitate toward finishes that are easy to build a room around. Natural oak, warm wood, creamy white, and softly washed finishes all work beautifully with upholstered beds, patterned rugs, and just about any color you decide to bring in later.

I also love a darker dresser in a light bedroom. It can be just the contrast a room needs, especially when everything else is soft and neutral.

Look for the Little Details

A dresser doesn't need to be elaborate to be interesting. Pretty hardware, subtle molding, tapered legs, or the texture of the wood can be enough to make a simple piece feel special.

The ten I chose have a nice range—from very clean silhouettes to pieces with a little more detail—but none feel so specific that you'd have to design the entire bedroom around them. That's exactly what I want from a piece of furniture I plan to keep for years.

Bigger Can Be Better

If you have the wall space, I love a long dresser. You get plenty of actual storage, but it also gives you a great surface for a lamp, mirror, artwork, books, or a few accessories without everything feeling crowded.

The dressers shown in my room designs are part of the overall inspiration, so these aren't intended to be exact matches to anything pictured. Instead, I rounded up ten dressers I love that could help create that same classic, timeless feeling in your own bedroom.

A good dresser doesn't need to be the star of the bedroom, but it should be something you still love even if everything around it changes. I'd choose a finish you naturally gravitate toward, give yourself as much storage as your space allows, and let the smaller details make it feel special.
