A mudroom is one of my favorite places to use wallpaper I'd probably never commit to in a larger room.
Because it's a smaller space, you don't need much wallpaper to make a big impact. You're also only in the room for a few minutes at a time, so a pattern that might feel overwhelming in a living room feels fun and welcoming here instead. The Vision
The combination of soft blue cabinetry and floral wallpaper gives this mudroom both structure and personality.
The cabinetry provides a calm backdrop, while the wallpaper adds character in the spaces above and between the built-ins. Because the cabinets cover so much of the wall, the floral pattern feels like an accent instead of taking over the room.
Lighting is another detail that's doing more work than it first appears. Instead of relying only on an overhead fixture, wall sconces direct light right where you need it—over the countertop and into the cubbies where you're constantly looking for shoes, backpacks, and everyday essentials. Under the bench, baskets make it easy to keep everyday clutter contained. The Designer’s Story
One thing I've learned over the years is that utility spaces deserve nice everyday essentials just as much as the rooms guests see.
In a mudroom, there are certain things that are almost always sitting out in the open. Hand soap, cabinet hardware, baskets, bowls for keys—they become part of the room whether you intended them to or not.
Instead of trying to hide those items, I like choosing versions that are attractive enough to become part of the design. They're one of the simplest and least expensive upgrades you can make, but they completely change the look of painted cabinetry.

Why This Room Works
Everything soft in this room has a purpose. The bench cushions make it somewhere you'll actually want to sit while taking shoes on and off instead of simply perching for a moment.
