This is what I like to call a “Growing Up, But Not Grown Up Yet” bedroom.

It’s polished, layered, and intentional — but still feels fun, personal, and completely appropriate for a kid who’s not asking for a race-car bed anymore… but also isn’t ready for a moody, all-black situation.

A Timeless Anchor Piece

The bed in this design is styled with a tailored upholstered silhouette similar to the Tilly style available through Wayfair — a shape I come back to again and again. The lines are clean and classic, and one of the biggest advantages of this style is the fabric flexibility.

For this concept, I leaned into an olive green tone. It feels mature without feeling heavy. Rich, slightly unexpected, and versatile enough to evolve as the room does.

When you’re designing for longevity, upholstery color matters. This one grows beautifully with the space.

Foundation Furniture That Lasts

Normally, I don’t gravitate toward matching dresser and nightstand sets — but I sourced a curved option from Wayfair that reflects the elevated, softened shape shown here.

I personally own the dresser I linked and can confidently say it’s a well-made piece for the price. While the rendering here is a conceptual representation, the linked dresser captures that same curved, substantial feel. The soft edges instantly elevate a room, and the style transitions easily as your child grows.

That’s always the goal: buy once, style often.

The Layering Makes It

One of my favorite design moves in this space is the use of subtle, textured wallpaper. I linked a similar option from Spoonflower that offers the same depth and visual interest without overwhelming the room.

Painting the trim and doors in the same tone is one of those quiet designer tricks that instantly makes a room feel intentional. It removes visual clutter and allows the furniture and artwork to shine.

Finishing touches matter. The mirror and pillows I sourced from Amazon reflect the same balanced softness styled in this concept. Layered textiles — especially when paired with properly sized inserts — bring warmth without feeling fussy.

And yes, the drapes are (drumroll, please) Two Pages once again — linked via Amazon. If it isn’t broken, I’m not fixing it. Hung high and wide, they deliver that tailored, custom finish that pulls the entire room together.

This is the kind of bedroom that grows with a child. It works now. It works in high school. And with a few easy swaps down the road, it could absolutely carry into those college-break-back-home years too.

Thoughtful. Flexible. Quietly cool.

Exactly how I like it.
